Review: Coffee Institute

Looking for a comfortable coffee shop around Senopati area? Well, I know there are plenty choices available, but you should try Coffee Institute.

The place has tiny looking from the outside and limited first floor space, but its second floor is actually large enough to let you and your whole gang to hang around.  The first floor is smoke-free area, while the second floor is free-to-smoke-till-you-fill-the-whole-room-with-haze area. My boyfriend (and all the smokers out there) loves this fact beyond anything.

The layout and the lighting create a comfortable feeling. If you are lucky, you can get the large couches- there are only two sets of couches on the first floor and some more on the second floor. But don’t worry, its café tables and chairs are comfortable as well. There are some bookshelves on the second floor, which are full with books and magazines that you can read. The café also provides additional electrical socket, which is very thoughtful. There is no reason to not spend a long time in this café.

I would say that the second floor is suitable to be a less-formal meeting place, maybe for a study or discussion group. The café even provides a projector that can be used for a presentation. The waitresses, although not many, are nice. They will not bother you by checking whether you will order something else or not every fifteen minutes.

So here is the menu of Coffee Institute...

As you can see, the prices offered by the cafe are still reasonable, considering its highly strategic place- though the coffee tastes “just ok” for a place called a coffee shop. I have tried the Dark Chocolate Rum Late, Homade Tea, Banana Choco Berry, and Hazelnut Latte. My favorite so far is Banana Choco Berry- less ice. And the meal? Umm… nah, I don’t like it. I’d recommend you to stick with the easy bites, specifically the French fries. I’ve tried Me Aglio Olio, Coffeeins Combo, and Java Vulcanic Chicken from the big bites choices, and none of them were A-graded.

You can find various numbers of board games, such as Monopoly, UNO, chessboard, etc. Thank god the games are still in good condition. The café also provides a tiny mini Mushola for the Muslim customers. The Mushola is not very comfortable as it is placed right in front of a table set, so strangers are going to watch you do the prayers.

Overall, it’s a very comfortable place to study or to just simply hang out with your friends. It also has high speed Internet connection, superb! I love the big couches beyond anything. If only it will improve its foods and beverages(?). Unfortunately- just Senopati thang!- it has limited parking area.

Fun fact: get into the toilet on the second floor and listen to the birdie!
